The Role

As a Process Chemist, you will support the chemistry systems across a fleet of Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) power stations, including sites at Damhead Creek, Shoreham, and Rye House, with occasional travel to Blackburn and Immingham. Working alongside the Lead Chemist, you will help maintain the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of water treatment, feedwater/boiler water chemistry, and cooling water systems.

This is a hands-on role involving troubleshooting, technical support, plant inspections, and the development of best practices to ensure asset protection and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide chemical advice to operations teams to ensure safe, reliable, and cost-effective asset performance.
  • Troubleshoot issues in water treatment processes, cycle chemistry, and cooling water chemistry.
  • Manage plant preservation strategies to mitigate corrosion risks.
  • Conduct inspections to assess the effectiveness of chemical dosing programs.
  • Oversee the management of legionella control in line with ACoP guidelines.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with technical service providers and OEMs.
  • Act as a safety advisor on chemical management, COSHH, and incident response.
  • Review and enhance chemistry procedures to align with industry best practices.
  • Support environmental monitoring, reporting, and external body liaison.
  • Assist in training production staff and contribute to plant reliability improvement projects.

What We're Looking For

  • Qualifications: Degree, HNC/HND, or equivalent in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience: Hands-on experience in monitoring water chemistry and strong laboratory techniques.
  • In-depth knowledge of water treatment systems, instrumentation, and process chemistry.
  • Familiarity with plant technical reviews, outage inspection scopes, and chemical safety practices.
  • Experience working in client/operator environments with contractor oversight.
  • Self-motivated, with the ability to work independently and as part of a small team.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and reporting abilities.
