We're seeking a Programme Cost Controller to lead the cost management strategy for high-profile programmes, ensuring cutting-edge projects are delivered within budget and on time.

About the Role
As the Programme Cost Controller, you'll take ownership of all aspects of cost management across multi-million-pound programmes. Your work will enable the accurate prediction, tracking, and reporting of programme expenditure, ensuring transparency and financial clarity at every stage.

You'll collaborate closely with programme managers, project planners, and senior stakeholders to maintain control of budgets while using industry-leading tools and methodologies such as earned value, CPI, SPI, and variance analysis. Additionally, you'll champion the use of best practices and innovative cost engineering approaches, shaping the future of cost management at UKAEA.

What You'll Be Accountable For:
* Leading the development and management of programme budgets, ensuring alignment with business goals.
* Championing best practice standards, tools, and processes for cost tracking and prediction, including earned value techniques and variance reporting.
* Building robust relationships with stakeholders, including the finance team, to ensure cost assumptions align with agreed annual rates.
* Providing expert commentary and advice to senior management on spend variance, trends, and improvement opportunities.
* Designing and delivering performance dashboards and key reports to support decision-making.
* Leading on strategies to enhance cost engineering capacity and capability within UKAEA.
* Advising Programme and Project Managers on cost management approaches, tools, and proportionality during the initiation phase.
* Establishing and maintaining networks with external experts to access and implement technical best practices.

What We're Looking For:
* Proven expertise in budgeting, tracking, and forecasting for large-scale programmes.
* Ability to simplify complex data and present it effectively to diverse audiences.
* Excellent analytical skills with advanced proficiency in MS Excel.
* Experience working with enterprise planning tools such as Primavera.
* Self-motivated problem solver with a strong track record of driving improvements in working practices.
* Degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., mathematics, economics, or a scientific field) preferred, though not essential.
* Project management qualification or professional membership (e.g., ACostE) highly desirable.
