Dayle Honess: “I’m running the Chester Metric Marathon on behalf of Asthma UK”

I’m Dayle Honess and I’ve worked at Rullion for a year now. I love working for a company that actively encourages employees to get involved in so many CSR events – it’s also great to be involved with an organisation which is constantly striving to be the best.

Perhaps it’s being part of this kind of culture that has encouraged me to run. Over the past year and a half I've really enjoyed getting involved in running and have been building up to longer events.

This year, I’ve decided to take part in the Chester Metric Marathon on behalf of Asthma UK. Suffering from asthma myself, I hope to help people who are more severely affected than I am, through raising as much money as possible to support nurses, projects and research. My target is £500, but any amount raised, no matter how small, will help the organisation...

Raising just £5 will help a young person to participate in a study to develop an age-appropriate way of managing asthma so that hospitalisation and asthma deaths are prevented. £75 could pay for a PhD student for a day, who could work towards us gaining a better understanding of the lung condition. £120 per day pays for an asthma nurse – on average, they answer around 8000 asthma-related calls each year. £500 could pay for a bronchoscopy for someone with severe asthma so that the cells in their lungs can be analysed, helping towards treatment.

It'd be great to gain a place at a large city marathon next year. If I could make it into the London Marathon, then great, but any marathon would be good – I’d love to run for Asthma UK again.
